Nextiva Cares and The Gorny Foundation Gift $100,000 to the Barrow Brain Tumor Research Center

press release | scottsdale, arizona | january 10, 2018

Nextiva (www.nextiva.com), an industry-leading cloud-based communications provider, announced today that its philanthropic branch, Nextiva Cares, gifted $100,000 to the Barrow Brain Tumor Research Center in partnership with The Gorny Foundation.

The $100,000 gift will go towards advancing the research and development of new treatments and studies that will enhance our knowledge of brain health and enable the Barrow neurological team to assist patients in new and effective ways.

Nearly 140,000 Americans are fighting a malignant brain tumor right now. In a bold effort to find cutting-edge solutions to this statistic, the Barrow Brain Tumor Research Center works diligently to develop groundbreaking treatments and studies, like the Phase 0 trial.

Phase 0 is currently the quickest route to identifying effective treatment options to battle glioblastoma, the most common type of brain tumor. According to the Barrow Brain Tumor Research Center, more than 9 out of 10 people with glioblastoma will live less than five years after their diagnosis.

“Within hours of the initial treatment, neurosurgeons remove the tumor and determine if the experimental drug reached the tumor and affected its biology. If the drug was effective, the patient will continue taking it, often as one of the first brain tumor patients in the world to be treated with the experimental drug; if not, they can move on to other therapies without losing much time,” said Katie Cobb, President of Barrow Neurological Foundation. “The support from The Gorny Foundation and Nextiva Cares will allow our amazing team to move forward with revolutionary trials and treatments, with the goal of identifying a cure for glioblastoma in the next 10 years.”

“Barrow Brain Tumor Research Center’s team takes an admirable and forward-thinking approach to brain health. As they work to create innovative solutions like Phase 0, our understanding of brain cancer and treatments will take us closer to a cure,” said Tomas Gorny, who is a member of Barrow Neurological Foundation Board of Trustees. “We’re honored to support an organization that makes such a difference in our community.”
